Avéline stands as the embodiment of its owners' long-cherished dream: to create an estate that would become a legacy for their family. In 1986, Paul & Marion Eidsmore acquired this magnificent 88-acre property, driven by the hope of a panoramic view from their summit. After clearing a trail with only himself and a chainsaw, Paul unveiled a vista that is nothing short of breathtaking. The Eidsmores call their view “The Martini Glass” as the ridges on either side of the mountain come together in a perfect V with Monterey Bay blue in the middle.
Of course, much work had to be done, as the land was raw. Paul was, and still is, a full-time inventor and set out to design the most unique home in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Marion took inspiration from Lake Como and the French & Italian countrysides. Several years later, the masterpiece was finished and the family moved in. Since that time, Marion cultivated expansive gardens around the property. Although Avéline is grand, they still wanted it to feel organic, and so the gardens flow naturally around the edges of the incredible Grand Lawn.
In those 40+ years, Paul & Marion raised four children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren against their expansive view. The enchanting forest, composed of Redwoods, Madrones and Oaks are the playground for their growing family, and still everyone’s favorite place to gather.
In 2023 The Eidsmores decided to share their slice of heaven with the community and host a handful of events & weddings each year. With an eye for design and entertainment, their son Thomas joined the endeavor. Yet, encapsulating the majesty and peacefulness in a name was difficult - so they drew on family heritage and the estate’s European feel. Avéline is French for hazelnut and there are many hazelnut trees on the property. It is also a nod to Paul’s mother, Evelyn, and Thomas’ daughter, Ava.
The family welcomes those who want to celebrate life and be present in the beauty of the Redwoods. Much palpable love and joy has been cultivated on this property and they hope you will become a part of it soon.
